My father drew beautifully.

When I was told in school that I have talent and I should follow Art School, I remembered the drawings he made so I would have colouring book.

At the graduation ceremony, where I had a speech in the name of all students, I ended up telling them about constelations, the axe of time, where we will be in the future and I declared I will go to mathematics-physics highschool.

My art teacher remained speechless.

I didn’t feel guilty but rather responsible for what I wanted to do. Her enormous dissapointment made me cry, I hugged her and promissed I will never stop painting.

36 years have passed. My brother’s death made me reconsider my priorities. I would paint again. My first painting was called Cats in a town. I made it in memory of a young cat. It was followed by The departure of the birds and many others.

After I told you the story of my paintings I can introduce myself. My name is Mimi Revencu. I am 50 years old and I’m romanian. I am a painter now. I am proud that in the end, I kept the promise made to my teacher, Magda Grigorescu, who believed in me. And I am proud that I can share with the ones around me “the joy of my soul” – as this is what my paintings are. (30.09.2009)
